People are always asking me, what do you do, exactly? Up to this point my answers have been all over the place. Now that I’ve been doing whatever I do for almost three years, I’ve finally decided that my answer should be, I help writers make decisions on how to publish, market, and sell their books. This brings me to the point of this article, everyone has a reasonable chance at being a successful author.

Writing is about ideas, it’s about committing to paper thoughts, experience, or stories. This commitment requires a tremendous investment in time. Once that time has been invested, everyone I come into contact with wants to publish. It’s not up to me to make the decision on whether or not someone should publish their writing, it’s an individual choice. Fortunately for all of us, technology has made that choice easier, because it’s relatively inexpensive to get a manuscript published.

Once an author has a book in hand, the obvious next question is, now what? This is where I come in, my background in publishing, even though it is of the New York variety, is ideal for helping authors see the big market picture. It’s important to make the right decisions about how to publish, and how to market. If you follow the advice of those who promote and advertise to writers then you’re bound to spend thousands of dollars and end up no better off than when you began.

If a writer follows the right steps, goes through the editing and packaging process, they have a reasonable chance at success. Meaning, just getting published is not the answer, it’s getting published the right way that gives each of us a reasonable chance at success. Seek out information, but expect to pay a price. A small investment in information is much better than hundreds and even thousands of dollars in products and services that do not work in today’s marketplace.
