What’s On Your Mind?

Last week I was speaking at a conference on “The Changing Face of Publishing.” I began with a few remarks and the hands in the room began to shoot up. Seems that every group is different and want answers to different kinds of questions. Which brings me to this blog today: What is really on the minds of writers and authors? And what kind of information do they really want?

When I sit down at my computer each day I personally answer tons of emails, with a wide variety of questions, some basic and many very specific. As I struggle to come up with new and interesting topics, I turn to the trades and search for articles that I think will be interesting and worth writing about. But this presents a challenge because I’m not sure if I’m providing my audience with the information they want or desire to read.

So I’ve decided to ask for help. I’m asking each of you that are reading this blog to think for a moment and decide—if I could ask anything about publishing, marketing books, sales, distribution, retail exposure, market share, and so on—what would the question be?

I’ve got lots of information floating around and there are hardly any areas of the publishing business where I do not have some exposure. So do not hesitate to ask those questions that have been on your mind. Don’t believe everything you read or hear and seek out advice from many sources. I’m one, but certainly not the only one. Share with me what’s on your mind?
