You are only limited in your quest to become a successfully published author by the depth and scope of your determination and imagination. If you are determined to pursue a career as a writer, then let me help you learn what is as important as anything you will do in preparing to become an author. The ability to write is paramount, understanding the business of publishing is crucial.
There are two very separate parts to becoming a successfully published author; the first is working to improve your skills as a writer. The second is learning what goes on from the moment your manuscript is acquired through the process to the point where your book goes on sale. If you do not understand the basics of publishing and what happens to your book through the various stages, then you are risking everything you have worked so hard to achieve and your chances of being successful are greatly diminished.
The majority of authors sign a contract to deliver a manuscript and then walk away leaving everything to their publisher. They are typically oblivious to what is going on behind the scenes. They are not part of the process in anyway and do not participate in the decisions surrounding the publication, sale and marketing of their work. The fact that publishers are overwhelmed with the process of bringing hundreds, even thousands of books to print and into stores is the reason why you, as a writer and author, must understand why decisions are made and how you can participate in the process.
The in-house people working hard to make your book a bestseller do not have the time or resources to devote to every single title the way they would like. They work under extreme deadlines to make sure everything is completed on time for the pub date. The more you understand about what is happening and at what stage, the more you can be an asset to your publisher and the better chance your book has of becoming a bestseller.
My efforts and this web site is devoted to helping writers learn the basics of publishing and understanding the marketplace so they can become a better informed author and greatly improve their chances of being successful. This translates into selling more copies at retail than are returned. I promise to deliver to you information that is easy to read and understand. I am available for questions so please join me as I help you in your quest to become a successful author.
